SAP Assessor training SAP Energy Assessors and SAP Energy assessment e.g. for New Homes construction, was originally controlled by Authorised Energy Rating Organisations (AEROs), however these organisations had differing standards and it was deemed necessary to adopt common standards for SAP Assessors.

If you are considering becoming an Authorised SAP Assessor, there are currently two organisations which have registered with Faero, (Faero's Competent Person Scheme for SAP and Carbon Dioxide Emission Rate calculations) these are Elmhurst Energy Systems and NES/NHER.

The statutes are required by Carbon Dioxide Emission Rate calculations as required by Part L of the Building Regulations. Full SAP as it is commonly known in the trade applies to New Build Homes.

Approved SAP software providers such as BuildDesk have been approved and others in the future will also participate in the Faero scheme. It is important to note that, Building Control do not recognise Authorised SAP Assessors as competent persons unless they are registered with Faero

SAP Assessment is by examination, and includes a theory test and a practical test. The practical test is the accurate recording of SAP and Carbon Dioxide Emission Rate calculations. There is also a simulated test which is typical of the work of a Competent Person and to use software to deliver ways to improve the energy performance of building design and report your inspection findings. The members below have further information on the subject and suitable training methods to attain competent person status.

Certification in this sector of inspection will become increasingly important, with the introduction of social housing energy assessment in 2008.

Commercial Property and Buildings Inspection energy assessment will be carried out using either SAP (for new homes) or SBEM for commercial buildings energy ratings.
