These
devices make up the majority of a common central heating system. The
central heating system, in order to maintain energy efficiency must
have some of these controls, without any controls, efficiency will
be reduced and the boiler will use more fuel. With these fitted the
home owner will achieve controllable temperatures for hot water and
living areas.
The Time Switch or time clock can switch the entire system on or off
at the times set by the user. The programmer is capable of storing several pre-set on/off periods
throughout the day or night. The majority of programmers can be set
up as the user requires, by setting different times for your hot
water and heating to switch on, These settings can be overridden
on the programmer if you require the system to switch on
instantaneously. The programmer when properly set, will
directly send a signal to the hot cylinder and any of the
home's room thermostats, thus the living space temperature will be
maintained at the required level.
When the home system is warming a cylinder of water, it is advisable
that a cylinder thermostat be present in the system, the thermostat
is usually set in the range 55-60 deg °C and should be located 1/3 the height of the cylinder from the
base. With this in place the hot water circuit can stop, and boiler
also, will stop, provided that no other control is demanding heat,
or if some of the hot water is used, or after a
prolonged period the cylinder itself cools, causing demand.
Domestic central heating systems must have a room thermostat fitted,
this is important,
as without this device fitted the boiler will simply cycle
continuously wasting fuel and increasing costs and wear and tear.
this device will shutdown the boiler, which allows the boiler to rest..
If the air in the home gets cooler, the thermostat sends a
signal to the boiler demanding that the room heating be switched on
to maintain the pre-set temperature. The location of the room stat
is normally in the hall of the property.
Programmable room thermostats are similar to a room thermostat,
they are usually fitted as a control measure for a combi type
boiler.
Consider fitting thermostatic radiator valves or (TRV's), these
replace existing valves fitted to radiators, they are more energy
efficient and can improve the SAP rating of a home.
