order to become a qualified home inspector you will need to
register with an approved assessment centre, these centres
offer distance learning courses with on site EPC field work,
this course work will prepare you for the examination for the Diploma in Home Inspection.
Domestic buildings and their construction must be fully
understood, as RdSAP methodology, in order to acquire the
skills required by a home inspector. Competence must be
demonstrated, particularly when surveying 5 units for National Occupational Standards (NOS) at Level 4,
to pass this exam a Diploma in Home Inspection is a
requirement. |
This is a vocational qualification and as such is known as a Vocationally Related Qualification
(VRQ). This is the standard set by the Qualification and Curriculum Authority
(QCA).
Part of the course entails preparing for Home Condition Inspections,
also undertaking Home Condition Inspections to the required standards,
and also providing evidence for Home Condition Reports.
Candidates must undertake and score a pass in the ABBE or whichever
certifying body, external examination and
thereby be awarded the diploma. An examination is also carried out online, the questions are multiple choice and the candidate is required to score at least 70% or in the external examination. A candidate is allowed two attempts for the exam as part of the test for the diploma. If a candidate fails the test, this normally requires an additional fee.
If successful in the examination, the assessment centre will notify ABBE,
or whichever certifying body, they will then issue your
Diploma in Home Inspection. Once you have received your accreditation
reference number and certificate you may then obtain the home inspection license and carry out home inspections.
