CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) Checks are required for the home
inspector or Domestic Energy Assessor and HIP provider agent before commencing a practice
in home inspection.
Energy Assessors must supply details to a CRB agency who is responsible
for checking the individual's identification, there are different
levels set on hoe these ID checks are performed. The accrediting training
company will require a check to be performed when the inspector applies
for accreditation.
Basic Disclosure Application
This is the most common form of check for identification
purposes. The applicant is required to produce a set of credentials,
these documents must be original and not copies. The most common
documents required for a CRB Basic Disclosure are:
- Passpoert
- Utility Bills
- Wage Slips (3 months)
- Proof of Address
Energy Assessors and Home Inspectors are required only to perform a
Basic Disclosure for ID purposes. An ID card bearing a photograph of
the inspector or assessor with the accreditation scheme details, the
ID card must be displayed by inspection personnel when visiting your
home.
The cost is normally around £20 for an application
for Basic Disclosure.
Standard Disclosure and Advanced Disclosure applications cost
more and the person's history is examined in more detail, normally
over several years, where references are taken up with all employers
and contact made with them to fulfil the requirements of this type
of disclosure.
In most cases an organisation in your local town or city acts as
an agent known as an umbrella body, they are normally voluntary organisations.
